Golf Club 357 - Courses Feeling the Affects of the Economic Downturn!
Golf Club 357, With the overall economic downturn the country is experiencing; it was inevitable that the back nine would eventually feel the effects. In a recent article by Mark Cardon in the Herald Tribune, he lists some of the effects on south Florida's courses.
Not only has leisure golf been on the decline, but attendance for charity golfing effects has also been on an incredible downturn. With inflation on the rise, and paychecks not keeping up, leisure activities are getting hit hard.
The Bobby Jones golf course in Sarasota had a 22% decrease in play in October, and the course is down 8% for the first half of January.
The Lakewood Ranch Country Club was greatly disappointed earlier this month when they had expected 1,500 people to attend the Paula 4 Kids Golf Celebrity tournament, and only had 12 foursomes.
Unfortunately, the immediate outlook for 2008 is not pleasant. With the government not reacting to the housing crisis, as it should, the money once designated for leisure activities is now being spent on day-to-day living.
