History of Ping Golf Clubs

PING golf clubs have an incredibly rich and inspiring history. The company began in the garage of Karsten Solheim, an engineer for General Electric. Solheim was frustrated with golf because he considered the putters on the market inadequate.
He made his own, naming it the "Ping 1A" because of the pinging sound the putter made when it struck the golf ball. The club would receive a great deal of attention because of its innovative "heel-toe" weighting.
Solheim moved his business to Phoenix, Arizona, where the company remains headquartered to this day. Despite the mounting sales of PING putters, Solheim continued to produce the clubs in his garage.
Probably the most significant event in PING's history was when Solheim received an epiphany for a new putter design, which he sketched on a record album cover. That putter would come to be known as the "Anser," the most influential and winningest putter in the history of golf.
