The Standard Components of Golf Club Sets

If you are just starting out golfing, you probably don't know what should be in standard golf club sets. It's important to have this information as a reference, especially if you plan to purchase your clubs individually.
First, you have the driver, which is most commonly used on the par-4 and par-5 hole tees. Lower-loft drivers are not used as frequently on the fairway because they make the ball harder to hit.
Next, you have the woods, which are the longest clubs and are used for the farthest shots. Note that most "woods" are not actually made of wood these days; they are graphite or a hybrid material usually.
Finally, you have the irons, which are used as the player approaches the green on the fairway or in the rough. Irons are the most versatile of all clubs and are typically numbered from one to nine, with the higher-numbered clubs used closer to the green.
