Dustin Johnson Uses Taylormade Golf Clubs 5-Layer Ball to Win Tourney

taylormade golf clubs

Pro golfer Dustin Johnson recently made history when he used the first and only five-layer tour golf ball, the TaylorMade Golf Clubs Penta TP, to win at the AT&T National Pro-Am.

TaylorMade created the Penta TP to maximize its performance in every kind of shot: long-irons, mid-irons, driver, short-irons, and wedges. The layers from the outer-most to the inner-most are called feel, spin, control, launch, and distance.

Johnson also played with TaylorMade's R9 irons, a revolutionary type of club. TaylorMade markets the R9 line as the "most technology you'll ever see."

The clubs have features like a silicone shock absorber, a KBS premium shaft, a deep undercut cavity, and a 2 mm wrap-around face.

The Standard Components of Golf Club Sets

golf club sets

If you are just starting out golfing, you probably don't know what should be in standard golf club sets. It's important to have this information as a reference, especially if you plan to purchase your clubs individually.

First, you have the driver, which is most commonly used on the par-4 and par-5 hole tees. Lower-loft drivers are not used as frequently on the fairway because they make the ball harder to hit.

Next, you have the woods, which are the longest clubs and are used for the farthest shots. Note that most "woods" are not actually made of wood these days; they are graphite or a hybrid material usually.

Finally, you have the irons, which are used as the player approaches the green on the fairway or in the rough. Irons are the most versatile of all clubs and are typically numbered from one to nine, with the higher-numbered clubs used closer to the green.

Choosing the Right Golf Club for You

Selecting the right golf club is essential to scoring your best game. The fit and type of your clubs can drastically impact your performance as well as your style of play.

As described in the video, the first consideration you want to make with your club is the shaft. Most experts recommend a graphite club shaft for lightweight, strong performance, especially for your drivers.

Also think about getting a hybrid club. Hybrid golf clubs replace the long irons of past years. The structure of hybrids helps the ball achieve more elevation and the club has a larger "sweet spot" than traditional clubs.

Think about buying a 20- or 24-degree hybrid club. Try to stay away from steel shafts because they vibrate more than graphite clubs, which reduces the comfort of players and the length of time that you can play.

History of Ping Golf Clubs

ping golf clubs

PING golf clubs have an incredibly rich and inspiring history. The company began in the garage of Karsten Solheim, an engineer for General Electric. Solheim was frustrated with golf because he considered the putters on the market inadequate.

He made his own, naming it the "Ping 1A" because of the pinging sound the putter made when it struck the golf ball. The club would receive a great deal of attention because of its innovative "heel-toe" weighting.

Solheim moved his business to Phoenix, Arizona, where the company remains headquartered to this day. Despite the mounting sales of PING putters, Solheim continued to produce the clubs in his garage.

Probably the most significant event in PING's history was when Solheim received an epiphany for a new putter design, which he sketched on a record album cover. That putter would come to be known as the "Anser," the most influential and winningest putter in the history of golf.
