Understanding Different Golf Club Components

Beginner golfers tend to think of a golf club as just a head attached to a handle. In reality, many different golf club components comprise a typical club, and we'll explain a few of the main parts in this post.

The three basic parts of a club are the grip, the shaft, and the head. The grip is found at the top of the club and is where the player places his/her hands. Clubs today come with a wide variety of grip materials to accommodate the preferences of the player.

The next component is the shaft, or the area that connects the grip to the head of the club. Most shafts are made out of graphite or steel. The shaft material will determine how flexible it is.

The bottom portion of the club that actually hits the ball is called the club head. Heads will vary in size and shape considerably depending on the type of club (e.g., putter, driver, iron, etc.).

Then comes the rod. This has to be strong and rigid because it supports the head of the club. Moving on to the head, this is the part that makes the club what it is. It can be made of wood, metal, titanium, and anything else. This helps you drive the ball as far as you want.

The grip could be made out of rubber or resin and it all depends on how tight of a grip the golfer wants. For the shaft, the thicker it is, the more power on the swing. The head is the most important part because it determines the power put behind the ball. There are chipper, putter, and driver heads available.
